  • Represented Corinthian Capital Group, LLC in the acquisition of Friedrich Air Conditioning Co., Ltd. as well as the portfolio company's sale to another New York-based private equity firm.
  • MKS Instruments v. Emphysys, C.A., 12-1858 (Ma. Super. Ct.) – Served as lead counsel, defending against claims of trade secret misappropriation related to advanced semiconductor manufacturing technology. The case settled very favorably after a positive summary judgment hearing.
  • Defended Hong Kong-based electronics manufacturer in multi-district class action litigation by 31 US states alleging illegal price fixing. Successfully negotiated complete dismissal of client with no contribution to claim funds.
  • Defended a global electronics manufacturer in a number of consolidated class action antitrust cases.
  • Successful Defense of Multiple IPRs — Capacitors Mintz is defending American Technical Ceramics Corp. (ATC) and AVX Corporation in three inter partes review trials initiated by Presidio Components, Inc., against three US patents concerning capacitor technologies and owned by ATC and AVX. One of these IPRs was denied institution and the PTAB issued a Final Written Decision in a second preserving all challenged claims. IPR2015-01330, IPR2015-01331, IPR2015-01332
  • Certain LED Photographic Lighting Devices and Components Thereof (337-TA-804) – Represented the complainant (plaintiff) that makes LED lighting systems for use in film and TV production, at the International Trade Commission. The ITC handed down its Final Initial Determination of infringement on September 7, 2012. On January 17, 2013, the ITC issued a General Exclusion Order (GEO) against respondents based in both China and the United States. The result in this case is particularly notable because it is rare for the ITC to issue a GEO due to the rigorous criteria and careful balancing of interests that apply to requests for GEOs.
  • L3 Communications Security and Detection Systems, Inc. v. Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc., 1:04-cv-11884 (D. Mass) – Represented Reveal, a start- up technology company in parallel trade secret and patent infringement cases concerning methods and apparatus for scanning explosives in baggage. Following extensive discovery and summary judgment hearings in the proceedings, the cases settled favorably to Reveal.
  • Represent as sole IP counsel an innovator in developing ultra-efficient engines for light duty vehicles. The company’s engines still run on fossil fuels, but do so 30-50% more efficiently than currently available technologies – with little to no increase in cost relative to traditional fossil fuel engines. We provide a worldwide IP strategy and have taken its portfolio from only one issued US patent to more than a dozen issued US patents with a comparable number issued in Europe, China, Korea, and other overseas markets. We have also conducted competitive landscape analysis of the marketplace with a particular emphasis on its main competitors.
  • Handle all manner of patent services for a publicly-traded company with market capitalization of more than $1 billion, which manufactures standard and custom engineered products and systems for a wide variety of cryogenic and gas processing applications. The firm has filed dozens of US and non-US patent applications and handled a European patent opposition as well.
  • Represent as primary patent counsel a leading supplier of injection molding equipment for the plastics industry. The company's equipment is used to produce packaging for beverages, medical devices, and consumer electronics, and includes closures and specialty thinwall packaging. The Mintz team helped the company to clear a newly-developed product for market, working to reduce the company’s overall risk by analyzing competitor patents and the complicated structure of the new product, in a highly compressed timeframe to enable timely launch of the product.
  • Serve as lead patent counsel for the electronic chemicals division of global company which manufactures electronic chemicals that are used in the production of semi-conductors and other electronics. The portfolio the team has developed (and continues to develop) includes thousands of patents and applications, including all U.S. and international filings for hundreds of patent families.
