Mintz corporate attorney Ben Stone discussed his career path and more on the podcast From the Dorm Room to the Board Room, which provides insights, tips and inspiration for college students and young professionals. The podcast is hosted by award-winning author and professor Andy Molinsky and is produced by Brandeis University’s International Business School. In addition, a short summary of Ben’s interview was published by Forbes.

Ben joins the ranks of other highly successful guests on the podcast, including the founders of Lola.com, Honest Tea and Kayak, Chief Human Resources Officer at Biogen, a congressional candidate, and the executive editor of the Harvard Business Review, among others.

In the podcast, Ben reflected on his journey to his current role as a corporate lawyer at Mintz. Ben’s practice focuses on helping entrepreneurs, investors, and companies in a variety of industries—including clean energy and technology—grow thriving businesses and have a positive impact on the world.

“My favorite part about this job, and why I came back to the law firm world, is the opportunity to meet, engage and support these incredible entrepreneurs who are putting it all on the line. And I'd say the vast majority of them are putting it all in the line not just to make money, which is incredibly important, but also to make the world a better place. And that’s really inspiring, and it’s an honor to be able to help in any way that I can,” Ben said.

Ben has long-oriented his career around gaining skills and generating social impact. After graduating from New York University School of Law in 2004, Ben was a corporate litigator at an international law firm in New York City; helped start and served as CEO of Indego Africa, a lifestyle brand and social enterprise partnering with thousands of female entrepreneurs in Rwanda and Ghana; led a team at American Express fueling high-growth entrepreneurship in the United States; served as Managing Director and General Counsel of an international impact investment firm; and founded Dollar a Day, a web platform for people to discover small nonprofits, with the founder of Kickstarter.

On his best piece of advice for young professionals starting out in their career, Ben said: “There are five principles that anyone can focus on that are controllable by any person, and I think it's related to careers, but also perhaps life. Be bold, be kind, be curious, be diligent and be grateful. I try to follow those principles as much as possible, and I find that things work out pretty well when I do.”
